Our Breeding Program
At the Hahn Reindeer farm, we raise our reindeer as pets. Because of this, we intentionally only raise a few calves at a time. This limited number really allows us to focus on the health and handling of our calves. As members of the Reindeer Owners and Breeders Association (ROBA) as well as the Reindeer Farmers Association (RFA), we are connected to a vast and experienced community of reindeer farmers which we rely on to provide our animals with the best possible care. Our calves are worked with daily and are trained in a variety of experiences to make their transition to their next home as easy as possible. Halter and lead training, trailer loading and unloading, as well as hoof trimming are among the many experiences your new calf will be initiated to. Above all, your calf will experience lots of love and attention during their time on our farm.

Owning Reindeer
Owning reindeer has been an incredible experience! Watching them in pasture, taking them for walks, learning their individual personalities and sharing them with others has been extremely rewarding and never seems to get old. However, with all the charm and wonder they offer, reindeer ownership is not for everyone. Specialized feed, vet care and housing are some of the many things to consider before purchasing a reindeer. As well, reindeer cannot be kept with goats or sheep on the property as they are carriers of malignant catarrhal fever which can be devastating to reindeer. Furthermore, most states currently do not allow reindeer to be imported from Colorado, so please inquire of your state vet to familiarize yourself with your state laws regarding reindeer ownership. We are always available for questions, so please feel free to contact us for further information.

Purchasing a Reindeer
Reindeer calves are generally born in spring and ready for their new homes in September. However, because of the time we invest in each calf, as well as demand, calves are very limited. Pricing ranges widely with reindeer depending on gender, personality, certification and markings. Be expected to pay anywhere from $8,000-$22,000 for a calf. Please contact us for current pricing, availability as well as if you would like to be put on our waiting list.
